19 febbraio 2026: Dieci anni senza Umberto Eco. Oggi, più che mai, è lui a parlarci del nostro presente. ChatGPT, Gemini e gli altri LLM sono, per dirla con il Professore, le massime espressioni di “macchina pigra”. Producono sintassi, ma non semantica. Calcolano probabilità, ma non creano senso. Mentre il mondo continua ad interrogarsi su reti neurali, algoritmi, bias e (presunta) intelligenza non umana, sono tornato su alcuni lasciti di Eco strettamente collegati ad una contemporaneità sempre più AI/DATA-DRIVEN. Non ci serviva un profeta per prevedere l’IA generativa, ma forse ci serve un semiologo per sopravviverle.

Il romanzo di fantascienza "Le argentee teste d'uovo" (titolo originale: The Silver Eggheads, 1961) di Fritz Leiber, tocca temi sorprendentemente vicini al presente, ma parrebbe che ben pochi se ne siano accorti.

Convergenze inattese tra Yudkowsky/Soares e Sadin Un contributo di riflessione per mettere a confronto due diagnosi dei rischi associati all’evoluzione attuale dell’intelligenza artificiale che sembrano, a una prima lettura, irriducibili l'una all'altra: quella di Eliezer Yudkowsky e Nate Soares, sviluppata nel volume If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies (2025), e quella di Éric Sadin, elaborata in Le Désert de nous-mêmes (2025). Al di là delle differenze metodologiche e disciplinari, che sono reali e non vanno minimizzate, i due approcci sembrano converfere su tre nodi fondamentali: 1] la struttura dell'allarme come kairos negativo, 2] la critica della complicità passiva delle istituzioni e della comunità scientifica, 3] il riorientamento del problema dall'ambito tecnico a quello antropologico. Tale convergenza non è casuale, rivela la presenza di una preoccupazione di fondo condivisa riguardo alla capacità dell'umano di comprendere e governare ciò che produce.

Tra scenari immaginati (ma nemmeno troppo) e prove scientifiche, un appello urgente ad agire prima che sia troppo tardi.

Per un Umanesimo Digitale come co-evoluzione. La plausibilità non implica esposizione, e senza esposizione non c’è responsabilità. La produzione può essere automatizzata; la deliberazione implica perdita, direzione, irreversibilità. Delegare non significa solo trasferire un compito: significa spostare una soglia. L’AI non sta sostituendo il pensiero umano, lo sta alleggerendo e proprio in questo alleggerimento si gioca la partita decisiva. Un saggio sull’illusione del pensiero delegato, sulla soglia non delegabile della decisione e sulla necessità di un Umanesimo Digitale capace di abitare l’oceano delle macchine senza perdere il peso del timone.

Un lessico per abitare l’intelligenza artificiale senza delegare l’umano

Stiamo entrando nell’epoca in cui non ci importa più se chi ci parla un essere vivente o la sua copia perfetta, ma solo virtuale, digitale, tecnologica?

Today’s conservative guardians of “eternal values” won’t outrun AI, not even if they sprint. Trying to hide from it is like raising a paper umbrella during a barrage of ballistic missiles. The shockwave is already forming, and most people still pretend it’s just a passing breeze. Their moral fortresses crumble the moment the algorithm enters the room. What they call protection is nothing more than ritualised denial dressed up as principle. And the unsettling truth is that the real storm hasn’t even begun to gather. We’re standing at the edge of the blast zone, insisting it’s sunrise.

Quando le voci più autorevoli del pianeta convergono sullo stesso messaggio, forse è il momento di ascoltare

Siamo di fronte a una biforcazione storica. L’AI può catalizzare una trasformazione positiva dell’educazione, liberando i docenti migliori da compiti ripetitivi per concentrarsi su ciò che solo l’umano può fare: coltivare curiosità, modellare rigore intellettuale, costruire relazioni educative autentiche. Ma può anche accelerare una deriva già in corso: la riduzione dell’insegnamento a trasferimento di informazioni processate, la perdita della relazione pedagogica come incontro trasformativo tra intelligenze umane, l’atrofia delle competenze sia dei docenti che non sviluppano mai maestria autonoma, sia degli studenti che non incontrano mai resistenza cognitiva produttiva. La differenza tra questi due futuri non risiede nella tecnologia. Risiede nelle scelte politiche, istituzionali e professionali che faremo.

Non è l’IA a cambiare il mondo, ma siamo noi che stiamo riadattando il mondo all’intelligenza artificiale e il rischio non è che l’IA diventi simile all’umano, ma che l’umano venga progressivamente adattato ai parametri della macchina.
